GIS: Foundation and Access Strategy to Integrated Enterprise Information
Track: New Technology and System Integration
Author(s): Geoff Stevens

GIS technology is proving a powerful force in delivering enhanced business applications that "tap" enterprise information in the water distribution business. Over the last five years the Otay Water District has built an integrated architecture and applications environment. GIS serves as both the foundation for all land and facilities information and also as a gateway or intuitive user interface to access enterprise information such as financial, customer, operational, and performance data. The boundaries between applications and organizational units are coming down and in its place is a unified information environment that stresses timely and accurate information as a foundation for business benefits. This presentation will explain the underlying integration architecture and demonstrate five "live" practical applications on enterprise integration using GIS technology as the gateway for business process improvement.
