Serving Up Enterprise Data
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Teague Buchanan

Access and distribution of state transportation data is an essential public service. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in partnership with Esri and their business partners are providing mapping on demand services through the Web. This paper describes the capabilities, usage, and performance of the services. The services provide widespread access and scalable distribution by facilitating multiple outputs from a centralized data store. Web delivery provides significant economy of scale. Real to near-time data currency increases product value thus driving service consumption. Enabling diversity in delivery options provides customers with choice, reduces barriers to use, and increases penetration into new business sectors. Workflow automation replaces the manual transformation of file formats and projections. Intelligent map products provide scalable product functionality from a simple view of a map to a situational awareness and response tool. Such methods transform the very nature of government, transportation, and public service.
