Abstract
Metropolitan Philadelphia Indicators Project: A Web-Based Regional Indicators Application Track: Census and Geodemographics Author(s): David Elesh, Megan Heckert The Temple University Metropolitan Philadelphia Indicators Project (MPIP) has developed and maintained a multi-county database of aggregated social, cultural and economic health indicators over the past several years. The primary means of disseminating this information has been through an annual book. The project wishes to replace this book with 15-20 page reports on specific issue areas and, recognizing the growing importance of the Web in the dissemination, acquisition, and analysis of information, a new Web site that permits users to both access existing data and to create maps and analyze data using only a browser. This Web site will enable users to not only search and map existing data, but also perform higher level geographic analysis including the ability to create new variables from existing ones and conduct statistical analyses. Through Web deployment and conscientious user-interface design, the site offers wide access to sophisticated geographic technologies without requiring GIS expertise.
