GeoInsurance: Integrating Addressing, Geocoding, Perils, and Accumulation Solutions
Track: Business GIS
Author(s): Rob Osment, Sharon Palmer

Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA), one of the largest United Kingdom commercial lines insurers, has recently gone live with a new underwriting system following one of the largest change programs in the UK insurance market. The use of spatial information is fundamental to the new solution. This paper presents the results of the integration of Esri technology with core underwriting systems and its successes in enhancing risk selection, monitoring and accumulation management. With more than 3.5 million insured locations in the United Kingdom, the quality of the address matching, geocoding, and spatial assessment is paramount. R&SA introduced a bespoke solution utilising ArcGIS server and ArcSDE designed to integrate with both mainframe and server environments. Additionally, post implementation activities such as fine tuning the solution, integrating other legacy systems and Web development are reviewed. New initiatives such as 'Whole World' geocoding and risk accumulation management utilising ArcWeb Services and ArcExplorer technologies are also covered.
