Development of Fuzzy SQL Inside ArcGIS Business Analyst
Track: Business GIS
Author(s): Pago Lumban-Tobing

Business planners have to continuously respond to changes in demographics and economy. They rely on intelligent models to provide analytical solutions. Intelligent models that incorporate these uncertainties will be more desirable. One solution to uncertainties is to incorporate these factors into the model itself. In doing so, the model can alter its rules based on changes in the outside world. A powerful way in building such a model is through fuzzy logic. In this research project we intend to incorporate fuzzy logic into the database queries. The product will provide data exploration facility. It will improve SQL requests by applying fuzzy logic to the record selection process. The queries will facilitate requests of selection based on concepts instead of numbers or text strings. The project will create a built-in application inside ArcGIS Business Analyst that will provide fuzzy data mining and knowledge discovery.
