Abstract
Arlington County, Virginia, Implements a Fully Integrated Web GIS Solution Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Mary Beth Fletcher, William Roper The paper presents recent results from the GIS Mapping Center in Arlington County, Virginia, focusing on the application of a flexible integrated web GIS solution for data viewing, query and communication with the public. Multiple data sets are presented including engineering drawings, utilities, construction projects, transportation planning, parks and recreation area planning and management. For instance, for projects under construction the user can find geospatially referenced information on the name and location of a project, building plans, the year the site plan was approved and when construction began, information on the type of units (office, residential, retail), the number of stories, the height in feet, the number of parking spaces, etc. Through a single portal automatic access is provided to data from multiple sources for internal users and the public in a controlled, intuitive manner. The GIS platform developed by Arlington County provides a strong flexible foundation for future expansion.
