Implementing Enterprise GIS for Long Beach Gas & Oil Department
Track: Electric and Gas
Author(s): Shil Niyogi, Michael Zukoski

Long Beach Gas and Oil Department (LBGO) provides natural gas service to about 91,000 customer accounts in Southern California. For more than 80 years, LBGO has maintained all map data manually using a variety of paper based systems. LBGO is now creating an integrated enterprise GIS based on Esri products. The goal is to integrate the Work Order and Service Order systems into the mapping functions and provide a single solution for compiling DOT compliance data. Nobel Systems will handle all data conversion for the project, converting from paper sources into a geodatabase. Nobel will also install GeoViewer Online, an ArcIMS-based application for browser based access. LBGO will be implementing Miner & Miner's ArcFM to assist in maintaining the GIS data. Another component revolves around Advantica's GIS based Code Compliance software that LBGO will use for DOT reporting. The project is scheduled for completion in May of 2008.
