Abstract
Ordnance Survey: Bringing the 1:250,000 Map into the 21st Century Track: Cartography and Map Production Author(s): John Dancy This presentation charts the movement of Ordnance Survey's 1:250000 map from a twenty year old digital production system to an ArcGIS platform. Subjects covered include creation of style sheets, use of the Interoperability Extension and PLTS, improvement in data quality through topological and other checks, automating repetitive data manipulation processes, creation of the editing environments using a variety of Layers and mxds and using the representation layers and cartographic tools delivered in v9.2. The major part of the presentation describes the processes followed, and sometimes surprising results, in migrating to a production database (DLM) with associated product specific DCMs. The introduction will be a short history of Ordnance Survey's small scale mapping production, and the conclusion an overview of where the development is likely to take us in the future.
