Drive-Time Analysis of West Virginia Hospitals Using Network Analyst
Track: Health and Human Services
Author(s): Jennings Starcher

The focus of this project is to demonstrate how GIS can be used to show 30 minute drive-time analysis for West Virginia acute care and critical access hospitals. Data used in this project included two road files from TIGER/Census which were joined to give needed information such as road length, speed limits and Census Features Class Code (CFCC) classification. The result of this new road file implemented travel time. The road shapefile used ArcCatalog to create the network dataset. The hospital locations data was provided by the WV Office of Health Facility Licensure and Certification and the United States Geological Survey. Network Analyst was then used to produce the 30 minute polygons that represent the two hospital classifications in West Virginia.
