A Location-Allocation Model for Retail Distribution Strategy
Track: Business GIS
Author(s): Jay Zhang

An expanding business often asks the following two questions: which markets to expand first and how many stores or branches are needed for each market. This paper discusses a systematic and quantitative approach and proves a customized location-allocation model effective for answering these two questions. The methodology developed in the paper is applicable to traditional brick & mortal retailers, banks/other financial institutions, and other businesses that have a distribution network.
