Calleguas-MWD: Integrating Work Management and GIS for Field Operations Efficiencies
Track: GIS Organization, Management, and Implementation
Author(s): Eric Bergh, Kosta Mallakis

Calleguas Municipal Water District (CMWD) is Southern California's 4th largest wholesale water utility. Because of the area's burgeoning population and expanding economy, CMWD has been implementing strategic projects to continue furnishing adequate, high quality and reliable water supplies. As with most utilities, CMWD relies heavily on its work order business process along with the use of Web-based GIS to manage field personnel and maintain geographically distributed infrastructure. Integrating GIS facility data with work management system via a common Web-based interface represents a major step towards leveraging technology to improve service and infrastructure maintenance efficiencies. With the integrated system in place, CMWD has access to geographically referenced historical information along with the capability to quantify and track maintenance activities thereby enabling management to better able to organize, plan, and allocate resources to support field operations. This presentation discusses the overall project vision and goals, implementation process, functionality, and lessons learned.
