Mapping Landscape Dynamics by Using TM/Landsat-5 and SAR/ERS-1 Data
Track: Remote Sensing Imagery
Author(s): Mauricio Rangel

This study present and discuss the results of the joint analysis of optical and microwave sensor data for the detection and mapping of changes of land use, as well as the change of landscape, at the northeastern section of this island. We used an images set of satellite TM/Landsat-5 and SAR/ERS-1 data. The methodological procedures used were: reduction of speckle noise from radar data, with the application of several filters with different window sizes, thus allowing the improvement of interpretation; application of the technique IHS space transformation and supervised classification, using the MaxVer classification algorithm. Finally the accuracy of the information set obtained was evaluated, based on the results obtained from the error matrix, using Kappa statistics. Data integration allowed the discrimination among different land use/land cover types, showing the synergism between multispectral and textural information.
