Abstract
Moving Ahead in GIS Using the Web Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management Author(s): Chris Marsh, Aimee Nickolas The State of South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department used a database for our land management system but its only spatial representation was a link to ArcMap. The data in the database was not related to the geodatabase for that management area. The old system was not availble to all users. The solution was to create a Web-based application that uses ArcGIS Server where all users can enter, edit and display data in one application. The project was funded through the department general fund. Users of the system brought to our attention that the old system was not functional with GIS but that this integration would be benefical. This process has shown users that GIS is an integral tool to complete daily tasks and that collaberation is key in building a new system.
