Abstract
SOA: Delivering U.S. EPA Enterprise Datasets as Feature Services Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Torrin Hultgren The GIS Community in the US EPA is diverse and decentralized, yet GIS professionals in all locations have similar geospatial data needs. The Office of Environmental Information's National Computing Center in RTP, NC is meeting these needs using a Service Oriented Architecture that includes Esri ArcIMS Image and Feature Services. Designing feature services that deliver very large datasets reliably and efficiently presents a host of challenges. This talk will discuss some of the challenges we faced, and present a number of best-practices solutions, from optimizing your data in SDE to tuning ArcIMS servers to designing effective AXL and MXD files. We will also discuss our plans to take advantage of the new ArcGIS Server GeoData Services.
