Abstract
Information Pipeline: A Geodatabase Approach to Effective Pipeline Management Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Author(s): Jeff Coffey, Andrew Oppong-Bawuah The Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) owns and operates 4 water supply reservoirs in North Central Texas, and manages over 180 miles of large diameter water pipeline. TRWD sells water to 26 municipal customers that in turn, treat and distribute water to approximately 1.6 million people in the North Central Texas Area. To date our Cedar Creek and Richland Chamber pipelines have experienced 17 catastrophic failures. TRWD developed a pipeline management strategy with an Esri geodatabase as the core that considers numerous variables necessary to adequately determine current condition of the pipeline segments and appurtenances, assess the risk of future pipeline ruptures, and prioritize pipeline repair and replacement for the next 20 years. This paper highlights some of the challenges and creative solutions to incorporate new and historical pipeline information in the creation of our Pipeline Geodatabase, while providing for future integration with the TRWD MMS and EDMS Databases.
