Abstract
CGrAS Graffiti Abatement System Utilizing GIS and Digital Cameras Track: New Technology and System Integration Author(s): Safa Egilmez CGrAS utilizes a Tablet PC or a handheld device, a Ricoh Caplio GPS-enabled digital camera, Geographic Information System (GIS) maps, and wireless technology to capture and transmit data to a secure database. The Environmental and Public Works component allows the EPWM GIS Analyst to visualize the graffiti removal activities as well as other abatement activities conducted by their field personnel. The system creates detailed reports that tracks the expenditures and the future needs for combatting graffiti. CGrAS allows Police Department Crime Analysis personnel to provide investigators with comprehensive gang forecasting information and allows signs of upcoming gang violence. Police Department can Identify the extent of graffiti tagging, determine which gangs and gang members are responsible for the tagging, learn the boundaries gangs have established and develop a pre-cursor indicator for rising tensions between gangs based on an increase in cross-tagging.
