Abstract
Building and Using 3D Data for Economic Development Decision Making Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Darryl Clare, Andrew Harrison Cape Coral, FL has experienced a recent rapid population and economic boom to make it one of the nation's top five fastest growing cities. They recognized the need to evaluate potential developments in the central business district early in the approval process to ensure the 'right' developments occur. The city worked with The Schneider Corporation of Indianapolis to create a GIS model of the city core and 3D architectural renderings of proposed developments as well as integrate the two and provide training for future analysis. Through this process the City acquired an invaluable dataset as well as the tools to utilize it. The smart planning and proactive approach to sensitive community development benefits that 3d technologies provide this emerging hub of commerce and residential growth are limitless. ArcGIS 3D Analyst is an essential tool for municipal planning and enables city administration and residents to visually experience future growth possibilities.
