Abstract
Implementing a GIS Catalog to Address Diverse Technologies and Data Track: Petroleum Author(s): Angela Nawrocki, Melissa Krieg A GIS Catalog enables users to organize their data as well as allow for quick searching and retrieval of that data. The GIS user community at XTO Energy is diverse, both in terms of discipline and in terms of technology. Users of GIS data utilize either Esri's ArcView or IHS Energy's Petra, or both software applications in tandem. Each application utilizes a different data format. Therefore, it was essential to create a 'one-stop-shop' tool that allows XTO Energy's GIS data users to easily locate and retrieve data, no matter the format. This paper discusses the process of defining, creating, and implementing a GIS Catalog that is intended for users not only of traditional GIS data but also formats designed for Petra. This paper also addresses the challenges associated with creating an interface to accommodate many different users' styles of searching, and the performance of the GIS Catalog.
