Abstract
Enterprise Data Migration Using Data Interoperability Extension and Python Track: Electric and Gas Author(s): Steve Boege The City of Mesa, Arizona recently completed a data migration project for the City's Gas Utilities Division. The City's enterprise geodatabase is built upon an ArcSDE/Oracle database. The gas system data model was customized from an OGC-compliant ArcFM Gas data model. The geodatabase supports multi-departmental business needs such as as-built data entry and future gas system design using ArcGIS and ArcFM tools and Web-based asset maintenance management using an in-house developed ArcGIS Server application. An extensive collection of geoprocessing models, data interoperability tools and python scripts were developed to extract, transform and load data from multiple data sources including AutoCAD, SQL Server tables, Esri shapefiles, and Access database tables into the enterprise geodatabase. Python was particularly useful for its looping constructs and cursors, which enabled the use of modular code.
