Abstract
GIS Assists to Enforce New Sex Offender Law Track: Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Author(s): Wayne Zhang, James Eidson The state's new offender law has Cobb overburdened as sheriff's officials try to keep pace with a moving population and ensure no registered sex offenders live within 1,000 feet of churches, shools, parks, day care centers, and community pools. With almost 300 offenders, chances are there are more violations. As a result, the task of enforcing the new law seemed daunting for the Sheriff officials. This paper will focus on how Cobb county GIS core group assist Sheriff Department to map out all of the new location where sex offenders were not allowed to live within 1,000 feet using ArcGIS Desktop application and ArcGIS Server Web services.
