Abstract
Riding the Technology Wave: GIS in Blue Earth County, Minnesota Track: Cadastral and Land Records Author(s): Julie Roisen, Mark Kemper Blue Earth County has a long history of taking a progressive approach to their mapping needs: they were among the first to move to a digital parcel layer in the early 1980s. The County continues to take advantage of every aspect of GIS technology at their disposal to enhance the services they're providing to both internal and external users of the data, including printing of maps with new orthophotography, and deployment of the GIS data throughout the enterprise. Recently, the County's Mapping Division, which resides in their Taxpayer Services Department, has elected to transition their farmland assessment to an upgraded ArcGIS-compliant application called FARMS. Riding the technology wave has allowed Blue Earth County to consistently provide efficient and effective service to GIS users at all levels. This session will feature their project successes and problems, as well as their future vision and goals for their system.
