Abstract
Converting CAD Data with ModelBuilder and the Data Interoperability Extension Track: Cadastral and Land Records Author(s): April Bowman Integrating CAD and GIS data can really be time consuming and confusing. CAD data often has to be converted to GIS data before it can be utilized in a GIS system. Normal out-of-the-box CAD-to-GIS conversion tools are not always the quickest or easiest method when one is looking to convert and integrate hundreds of CAD drawings with other data sources. There must be an easier way! GeoSpatial Services, a division within the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, has been developing CAD conversion tools using both the ArcGIS Data Interoperability Extension and ModelBuilder since 2005. Several different conversion tools and models have been developed to convert large CAD drawing sets of sanitary sewers, plats, planimetric data, and topographic data. This presentation will focus on Data Interoperability tool development, how ArcGIS tools were used with the Data Interoperability tools in ModelBuilder, and lessons learned.
