Abstract
Census Education Geodemographics Track: Census and Geodemographics Author(s): Doug Geverdt Geography is one of the fundamental organizing features of public education, and the U.S. Census Bureau relies on GIS as a primary analytic tool to examine geodemographic conditions affecting educational administration. This presentation offers examples of various projects that rely on ArcGIS for spatial analysis, and discusses current and future geodemographic data resources designed by the Census Bureau to support analysis of public and private education. Examples include analysis of the impact of geographic cost of living adjustments on school district poverty and school lunch eligibility, as well as discussion of a school locale typology developed for the U.S. Department of Education. Examples of data resources include discussion of annual school district demographic data developed from the American Community Survey, and availability of school district shapefiles.
