Abstract
Production of Topographic Maps Using ArcGIS 9.1 Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Holger Colin The USAREUR ITAM team has taken the challenge to produce military topographic maps using ArcGIS 8.3 and 9.1. The maps were produced as a combination of raster base maps delivered by German national surveying and special vector overlays prepared in ArcGIS. This presentation will show the possibilities and limitations of ArcGIS on the way to a full topographic map. All production steps from the raw data to a complete layout will be outlined. Recently a 1:25,000 map was produced and a 1:50,000 map is to be produced soon. Both maps require large paper formats due to the size of the areas that needed to be covered.
