Abstract
Maritime Archaeology GIS Tool for the NWHI Marine National Monument Track: Archaeology Author(s): Kaylene Keller NOAA's maritime archaeology team in the Pacific Islands region needed a tool for cataloging and visualizing the distribution of maritime archaeology sites and artifacts found in the NWHI Monument. A GIS tool was developed for use in ArcGIS and ArcReader to provide the archaeology team with the ability to add new sites to an existing geodatabase, attach pictures to sites and produce standardized maps. The tool can be deployed on the research vessels for future data collection and comparison of existing data with new sites as they are surveyed. Development of the geodatabase for the management of the Monument's heritage resources has helped standardize the data and provided a useful visualization tool.
