Abstract
Using GIS to Manage the Stockpile: A Regional Perspective Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Chris Chalmers Nebraska Health and Human Services GIS, winner of the 2004 Special Achievement in GIS award, has developed a Web mapping application for managing the disbursement of pharmaceuticals in the event of an emergency requiring mass care, including pandemic influenza. The application maps all levels of the distribution channels and provides quick and easy access to inventory. This inventory information can be quickly compared to population information from the census for a particular geographic area. The application also maps the location of users of the system. The application additionally provides tools for collaboration and transaction management. This application is one of many that combine to provide Nebraska Health and Human Services with a powerful GIS for public health. Changes were made in the Stockpile Management Receiving and Tracking Application (SMRT) that makes it now possible to manage and inventory stockpile pharmacies around the state of Nebraska.
