ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE and ArcIMS within an Enterprise SOA
Track: New Technology and System Integration
Author(s): Christof Sonderegger

Today, the Swiss Re GEOserver provides a wealth of geospatial services to a broad range of Rating and Pricing applications. These services are provided within a J2EE WebSphere service-oriented architecture, using ArcSDE, ArcIMS, and ArcWeb Services for mapping, spatial analysis, visualisation, and geocoding. Further services enable the visualisation of reinsurance-relevant data underlayed by satellite imagery. A new GEOserver based on ArcGIS Server EJBs is currently under development; this new GEOserver exposes web services that will allow simpler integration of the services with both Java- and non-Java-based applications. With ArcGIS Server, Swiss Re will expand the group-wide use of geospatial services by facilitating simplified integration within the Enterprise IT infrastructure, whilst promulgating increased flexibility and enhanced functionality, leading to shorter time-to-market, richer customer experience, and synergies across the business.
