Colonial Pipeline CompanyManaging Operational Risk Track: Pipeline Author(s): Chad Zamarin, John Beats The effective management of critical oil and gas pipeline infrastructure requires the administration of increasingly complex and costly assets with limited resources. As technology has improved, so has the ability to model our infrastructure and its interaction with the environment to better understand the potential for operational failure. In order to do this most effectively, an enterprise approach to managing and analyzing asset related information must be employed. With the introduction and evolution of the Geodatabase environment, enterprise asset management can now be performed to a more advanced degree than ever before. This paper will explore how Colonial Pipeline Company is implementing the ArcGIS Pipeline Data Model (APDM) and a foundation of ArcGIS technologies to achieve enterprise asset management and optimized preventive maintenance. We will discuss the design process and development of a risk based asset management program to meet the stringent requirements of a transmission pipeline management program.
