Applying Geodesy: The True Fundamentals of GIS Track: Surveying Author(s): Patrick Cunningham, Victor Minor What good is a map if it is not accurate? When accuracy is important, the basics matter. This will be a discussion on the basic concepts of geodesy and mapping and applying those fundamentals to your day-to-day work. Some topics covered will include horizontal and vertical datums, methods of transformation between datums and their consequences, and the nuts and bolts of various map projections. We will examine how all the pieces add up and why every step is important.
