Abstract
St. Croix International Watershed Mapping Initiative Track: Water Resources Author(s): Michael Laitta, Karen Hanson, Nelda Craig, Faye Cowie In September 2005, The U.S. Geological Survey of the U.S. (USGS) of the Department of the Interior agreed to assist the International Joint Commission (IJC) in developing the technical methods required to support the International Watershed Initiative along the Canadian/U.S. boundary. As a preliminary step, the IJC selected the St. Croix drainage area as the pilot project area to assess the level of effort required to harmonize coding structures, naming protocols and line accuracies for the generation of hierarchical drainage area interpretations within the St. Croix drainage area. The St. Croix mapping project will be the first of its kind, integrating Canadian and U.S. data for a suite of seamless data products for a shared management area. In addition to bringing together stakeholders on both sides of the boundary, this initiative will provide experience that can be applied more broadly in other applications of the Canadian - U.S. mapping and data integration.
