Digital Topographic Support System: Providing Geospatial Services to the Warfighter
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Linda Graff

With the transition of Army systems from stovepipe command and control capabilities to a Net-Enabled Command Capability (NECC), the Combat Terrain Information Systems (CTIS) program is leading the way to bring discoverable geospatial information, data and application services to the Warfighter. Using Esri products, including ArcGIS Server and ArcSDE, along with OpenGIS ® standards such as Web Map Services (WMS), Web Feature Services (WFS), Web Coverage Services (WCS), Web Terrain Service (WTS), and Web Map Context, the Digital Topographic Support System (DTSS) is providing geospatial information and data needed to support the Army's Battle Command Common Operational Picture (COP) in a service-oriented architecture (SOA). The DTSS GS software will provide near-real-time access to up-to-date geospatial data and analysis products in order to rapidly and accurately respond to the optempo of combat operations.
