Outlook of the GIS Functionalities Integrated with NATO HQ-Sitcen Services
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Stergios Pinakas

In our time, the dynamic capability of responding to major world crisis with complete in depth information has become a fundamental aspect of all large Organizations. The demand from high level players for more comprehensive tools which would fuse various attributes associated with the same event requires an effective answer within reasonably short time.

The presentation will illustrate how Geospatial Information can be combined with the standing NATO Headquarters Situation Centre (SITCEN) services to provide a Web-based environment to monitor global political and military scenarios. This technology will be able to pull or push information, and present it with a geographic outline. The Geographic Information Systems (GIS), together with the hardened Geo Web services can significantly move forward the current methods and practises to guarantee a global integrated solution to support key decision- makers, task forces, and exercises at a grand-strategic level Organization.
