Abstract
Integration of GIS into Navy NERMS Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): William Reif Under the NERMS program the Navy is creating two regional dispatch centers for the Navy. These two regional dispatch centers will consolidate call taking and dispatch for public safety resources at all of the bases in each region. An integral component of each regional dispatch center is the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. A key component of a CAD system is the integration of GIS data that is used to identify the location of an event and a real-time map that can provide visual information to a dispatcher on the area surrounding an event and situational awareness. Challenges include the collection of GIS data, validating the completeness and accuracy of the data and determining response areas for each base. Organizations can learn about the importance of GIS data to the implementation of a CAD system and uses of GIS data and maps in public safety dispatching.
