Abstract
PALANTERRA Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Mark Riccio Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have traditionally been the purview of the Geospatial Analyst/Cartographer, not the end-user. Today, advances in GIS and Web technology have enabled spatial information to emerge from cloistered single purpose data stores and thick-client exploitation, to organizations delivering geospatial information / analysis to customers via open Web services and exploited via analytically enabled Web sites; a challenge to traditional acquisition and production processes. NGA has responded to this challenge with Palanterra. Palanterra unites NGA and its customer base, for the first time, through an integrated GIS architecture for Web-based dissemination, analysis, and visualization.
