Abstract
NAVFAC Midwest's GIS Provides Logistics Support at NSWC Crane Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): David Poynter Many organizations have invested significant resources into personnel, infrastructure, and equipment to support their logistics mission. But just how can they efficiently manage their assets and activities when they are spread over hundreds of square miles of remote terrain? How can the organization ensure that they are optimizing their resources to meet the challenging demands of just-in-time logistics? To support both Navy and Army activities resident on NSWC Crane, NAVFAC Midwest has developed, tested, and implemented a low cost vehicle tracking system, based on ArcIMS, that allows real-time tracking of equipment from locomotives to snow plows. The ability to pinpoint the current locations of equipment assets overlaid on high resolution geospatial data, enhances dispatch functions, promotes operator safety, and improves logistics capacity and efficiency. During this presentation, we will discuss the approach taken and the variety of technologies involved.
