Understanding the customer and marketplace is a constant challenge for any company. To know "where they are" and "who they are": customers, competitors, and our telecom infrastructure & network, are the key components to guide the actions of marketing executives.

This paper will investigate the innovative way as Oi—the largest telecom company of Brazil—uses GIS as a foundation for Business Intelligence and how it interacts with Data Mining, Database Marketing and Market research.

Encompassed within this presentation will be the development of the geo-processing work done inside the company and a few practical applications related to store location; customer segmentation; customer portfolio definition and other examples of GIS integrated with Business Intelligence techniques.
