First Nations/GIS in Indian Country/Successful Partnerships
Track: Ecology and Conservation

Overview of the successful partnerships developed between the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in support of Tribal entities participating in various course offerings. For several years the FGDC and FWS have implemented an agreement to fund tuition, lodging/ per diem for Tribal participants to attend TEC7112-GIS Introduction for Conservation Professionals, and TEC7132-GPS Introduction for Natural Resource Field Personnel. The courses are offered at the FWS National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, WVA Mark Richardson will do an overview of the 2 courses and his contact info is Mark_Richardson@fws.gov, 304-876-7470.

The FGDC and FEMA has also implemented an agreement to fund travel, tuition, lodging/per diem for Tribal participants to attend E580-Emergency Management Framework for Tribal Governments, E581-Emergency Management Operations for Tribal Governments, E190-Introduction to ARCGIS for HAZUS-MH Users, and E313-Basic HAZUS-MH. The courses are offered at the FEMA Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, MD Bonnie Gallahan will do an overview of the 4 courses and her contact info is bgallahan@usgs.gov, 703-648-6084.
