Author(s): David Wyatt

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian Reservation is located in the southern Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina and consists of approximately 56,000 acres of remaining Tribal lands. The Tribal Intergraded Geographic Information System (IGIS) is a GIS centric enterprise database system to utilize Esri's new 9.2 core technology. The goal of Tribal GIS (Geographic Information System) database system is to provide a GIS centric database workflow, data management and resource planning/management system for the Tribal Government. The EBCI plans to integrate existing geographically related workflow such as parcel transactions, parcel transaction history, parcel surveys, cultural and archeological data/history, residential and commercial development inspection/permitting, utilities, housing, infrastructure, EMS services, environmental regulations, logging, economic planning/development, project management and disaster planning.
