Abstract
Assest Management of Utility Distribution Systems Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Daniel Camboia As budgets continue to tighten, managers are increasingly trying to operate more efficiently. To help maintain operational efficiency an automated system is required that can gather information from many different departments and integrate it into one central data wharehouse. The integration results need to be presented in a way that all operating departments can use. During integration one needs to understand that records are often incomplete, missing, and lacking in detail. In addition, one of the largest hurdles to overcome in utility data collection is the fact that 99% of the pipes are buried. These realities make it difficult for management to decide what data is necessary and economically gathered and what data is nice to have but is costly. This paper seeks to give some guidance on establishing the building blocks to a utility asset management system.
