Integrated Geographic Targeting and Tracking in Chesapeake Bay Restoration
Track: Environmental Management
Author(s): John Wolf, Scott Phillips, Tom Parham

The Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) is a unique regional partnership that has led and directed the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay since 1983. CBP is developing an overall, coordinated strategic implementation plan (SIP) which identifies the implementation actions and associated resources Program Partners are taking to achieve Chesapeake Bay restoration and protection goals. The framework of the SIP includes geographic targeting of implementation activities, the geographic tracking of corresponding conservation and restoration efforts, and the establishment of a geographic framework for accountability towards restoration success. GIS is playing a major role in the targeting and tracking of implementation activities as well as communicating the successes and challenges of large scale watershed restoration. This presentation will provide an overview of how integrated geographic targeting for water quality and habitat restoration and forest and wetland conservation is being applied in the CBP SIP.
