Server-based GIS and Web portal technology is a lucrative way to deploy geographic materials and functionality across an internal enterprise and further forming partnerships externally. With server GIS, data, and focused applications can be hosted centrally and made accessible to end users with varying degrees of GIS needs. As the evolution of the GIS develops technological integration has become the backbone of GIS. By becoming more server oriented, GIS Integrated Enterprise solutions are being deployed in the Transit Industry to facilitate data transfer and real-time data modification. The Enterprise Spatial Information Management has progressively evolved towards Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS)-Centric and Web Services-Centric environments creating a viable platform for central and regional partnerships within the transit industry.
