Abstract Managing Land Compensation with Enterprise GIS Track: Cadastral and Land Records Author(s): Duarte Carreira The Alqueva Project Company (EDIA) is developing Alqueva Project made of 16 dams, 300 Km of water channels, and equipping 115.000 hectares for irrigated agriculture. GIS at EDIA helps manage land acquisition and compensation activities while building these infrastructures. The Enterprise GIS at EDIA evolved to support these activities. Starting in the 90's by acquiring imagery and cadastre data covering 600.000 hectares, organized in a file-based structure, until today where geographic and business information reside in a relational database, serving both GIS and land compensation teams. A web application provides navigation, search, and data management tools. The database is based on Oracle and ArcSDE, and web mapping is based on ArcIMS and .NET. The GIS team refocused on managing geographic data, printing fewer maps. The land compensation team now works with a database back-end enforcing data standardization plus a web application easing data input and geographic exploration provided by ArcIMS.
