Adaptions of ArcGIS Linear Referencing System to the Coastal Environment
Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources
Author(s): Thomas Balstroem

ArcGIS Linear Referencing System (LRS) was originally designed to store information about road systems but other linear features (such as river systems) can benefit from being stored using this data model as well. As it for years has proven problematic to store and analyze coastal information related to a coast line based on the shapefile format it has been tried to adopt LRS in this context. This presentation illustrates the problems discovered during the experiments and comes up with recommendations for further ArcGIS development to honour the expectations related hereto.
