Building a Comprehensive Utilities GeoDatabase at McCarran International Airport
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Majed Khater, Jeroen Preiss

Las Vegas McCarran International Airport maintains an increasingly complex utility infrastructure including water, wastewater, stormwater, natural gas, jet fuel, communications, FAA, and electrical systems. To support the development of a Utilities Master Plan, Kennedy/Jenks Consultants designed a work process that integrates thousands of utility drawings compiled over a period of 60 years. This process has produced an integrated Utility Master Plan GeoDatabase that is compatible with the Airport Engineering Division's CAD systems; hot-linked to original record drawings; ready for modeling and network analysis; and ready to be used in asset management systems. The GeoDatabase is accessible to staff in the office or in the field through a web browser and is subject to field verification. Easy access to comprehensive utility information is proving invaluable for the planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance functions at McCarran International Airport.
