Efficient Collection of Pavement Distress Data in an Urban Environment
Track: Public Works
Author(s): Daryl Scott, Jason Dong

In 2007, the City of Dallas implemented an automated data collection system using a GIS-based data collection vehicle. The data is collected into EnterRoadInfo Pavement Data Collection System (EnterInfo) and ArcGIS with integrated automated crack detection system, video image capture, ground penetrating radar, and road smoothness profiler. The data is then analyzed in GBA Master Series (gbaMS). Together, this system collects and analyzes 100% of the City's 11,576 lane miles of streets each year. This presentation will discuss findings and lessons learned from the implementation process and demonstrate the software applications.
