iMapInvasives: A Multi-state Application to Manage Invasive Exotic Species
Track: Ecology and Conservation
Author(s): Dean Jue

A consortium formed in 2007 to develop a web GIS-based, all-taxa invasive species mapping application called iMapInvasives which will serve the needs of invasive species managers. One emphasis will be tools to aid managers in their Early Detection/Rapid Response efforts. The initial consortium was comprised of the natural heritage program of the states of Florida and New York, the Nature Conservancy of Oregon, and the Global Invasive Species Team of The Nature Conservancy (TNC-GIST) but more partners have joined this development effort. A Web-based display and query map with a common core database structure has been developed. Enhancements will include Web-based data entry and editing as well as spatial analysis and report generation tools. This presentation will discuss the challenges of maintaining a common core database among all the participants while allowing for their unique data needs and requirements.
