Implementation of GIS Based Crime Analysis in Gulfport, Mississippi

In 2006 the Gulfport Police Department began its transition from a manual crime recording and analysis approach toward a digital GIS based approach. The Gulfport Police Department now uses this system, based around the CrimeView extension for Arcmap developed by the Omega Group, for resource management, crime analysis, and crime prediction. The City of Gulfport has recently implemented a city wide wireless network which, in combination with a lightweight web based component, has made it possible to deliver crime analysis and prediction information to officers in the field. This presentation will discuss the evolution from paper based crime analysis to our current system of serving data directly to officers.
