Cleveland Water's Data Creation and Maintenance
Track: Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater
Author(s): Guy Singer, Brian Wopershall

Over the past 5 years, the Cleveland Division of Water has been converting as-built construction drawings and other system information into an enterprise geodatabase. One of the challenges is to keep the information as up-to-date as possible. Workshops were held to develop flow charts of the existing work processes to determine when and the type edits that need to be made in the GIS. Using those charts as a basis, Esri's Job Tracking Extension (JTX) and custom applications were designed so that a GIS technician can be assigned a specific job, use the source drawings to make the edits, and post their changes for review. In the case of electronic as-built submittals, data will be automatically converted to the GIS from CAD. At that point, a manager can review the data and determine whether additional changes are needed, or the data is ready to be published.
