Journey to Efficiency: Integrating GIS, Work Order and Pavement Management
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Lynn Biggs, Kip Bontemps

Cobb County Department of Transportation oversees one of Georgia's largest county owned road networks. The county's enterprise transportation geodatabase, CobbETRANS serves not only the business needs of DOT, but also other departments, making it one of the most used spatial databases in the county. Leveraging the existing enterprise GIS workflow, Cobb DOT integrated CobbETRANS with CarteGraph's work and pavement management application. Achieving this integration minimizes data entry, reduces data error, and improves efficiency by seamlessly updating CarteGraph with new roads as they are added in the GIS. Accessing and analyzing complete, current, and synchronized road information stored in both CobbETRANS and CarteGraph enhances the overall efficiency of CobbDOT's operational and maintenance activities. This presentation highlights how this integration has improved the management of one of the county's more valuable assets, our roads, and how we are better able to track the work we are doing for our customers.
