Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management
Author(s): Nilton Venturi, Alzir Buffara Antunes

This article describes the methodology to determine the excellent regions for the implantation of forest fires towers using a GIS. The choices of the places of the monitoring towers depend on the identification of factors related to the human behavior, identified in this work as threat and the knowledge of the vulnerability of the environment. A map of fire risk was elaborated for the identification of threat and vulnerability factors, used as a basic reference to choose the places of the towers implantation. The distance related between the towers and its positioning in areas of bigger altitude also had been analyzed. For the evidence of the efficiency of the model the visible areas for the towers already existing were compared and determined with the visible areas of new towers proposals. This study resulted in increase of 13.375 hectares in the visible areas, increase of the visibility towers raised 44.37 percent.
